Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry launched on Sunday the first official website of Pakistan’s Moon-sighting and Hijri Calendar. The launch took place at a ceremony where the minister highlighted the importance of technology that he said could help the moon to be seen without much trouble.
“In my opinion Ruet-Hilal Committee is no longer required (for moon-sighting,” the minister said of the central body comprising religious scholars and experts.
Earlier in the day, Chaudhry used his twitter account to make the announcement .
After his statements on the role of the clergy in moon sighting, Fawad Chaudhry has come under severe criticism from religious circles.
Every particular year, the moon sighting has created controversy in Pakistan over the sighting of Ramadan and Eid moons.
