Popular Veteran TV show host Tariq Aziz has passed away in Lahore, sources close to the family have confirmed.
The actor was admitted in a private hospital last night after feeling critically ill. However, the cause of his demise is still unknown.
Aziz received his early education in Jalandhar before starting his career at Radio Pakistan, Lahore. When Pakistan started its initial television broadcast in November 1964, Aziz became the first male PTV broadcaster.
He started his career in films with Insaniyat (1967) with renowned actors Waheed Murad and Zeba, following which he also played the leading role in film Haar Gaya Insaan.
He also remained an MNA from 1997-1999. He was conferred Pride of Performance for his excellent services in 1992, ptv news reported.
Earlier in a tweet, he announced that all his wealth and asset to Pakistan will be donated after his death. He said: “Allah has not rewarded him children as it was all his power, therefore I announced to donate all my wealth and assets to Pakistan”.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also expressed grief over the death of renowned TV host, actor and politician, Tariq Aziz.
“Saddened to learn of the passing of Tariq Aziz, an icon in his time and a pioneer of our TV game shows. My condolences and prayers go to his family,” said the PM in a tweet minutes after news broke of Aziz’s demise.
