“Pakistan’s early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy has been attributed to a lack of experience among players, according to interim head coach and chief selector Aqib Javed.
The Pakistan cricket team has faced intense criticism following their six-wicket loss to India in Dubai, which sealed their fate in the tournament. This defeat came on the heels of a 60-run loss to New Zealand in the opening match in Karachi.
Hosts Pakistan ultimately failed to advance from the four-team group, while India and New Zealand progressed by winning their matches against Bangladesh and Pakistan.”
“A lack of experience and pressure proved too much for Pakistan’s young team, according to interim head coach Aqib Javed. Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Rawalpindi, Javed attributed Pakistan’s losses to India and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy to the team’s inexperience.
Javed emphasized that matches between India and Pakistan are “more than cricket,” requiring a high level of experience to win. He noted that the Indian team has a significant experience advantage, with over 1,500 games played collectively, compared to Pakistan’s less than 400 games.
Only a few Pakistani players, including Babar Azam, Mohammed Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, have played over 100 games, while the rest have played fewer than 30 games. Javed cited the examples of Tayyab Tahir, who has played only eight matches, and Khushdil Shah, who has played 15 matches.
Pakistan, the 2017 Champions Trophy winners, are hosting their first ICC event since the 1996 ODI World Cup. However, they have struggled, losing to New Zealand and India, while India has refused to tour Pakistan due to political reasons and is playing its matches in Dubai.”
